WHY BUY A USED KIA?

Now, about those distinctive advantages you’ll find with pre-owned Kias: The first and most important has to do with pricing. As soon as a new-car buyer drives off the lot, that vehicle begins to depreciate. In fact, you’ll typically see brand-new cars lose 20% of their value after a single year in service, and that rises to 60% after five years. So in the pre-owned marketplace, where price is based on value, it’s like the vehicle’s cost is falling by the same amount. And you’re likely to see similar savings when you go get car insurance, which is also based on value. Another advantage to shopping for pre-owned Kia vehicles is that that’s the only way to get some of the brand’s most popular past products. For example, recent years have seen long-running names like the Kia Optima sedan and the Kia Sedona minivan replaced by all-new models, and the Kia Cadenza and Kia K900 flagship sedans are on hiatus — leaving fans of those models with only used examples to choose from. Need a little extra confidence to seal the deal? Ask about getting a used-vehicle history report that can tell you about a used vehicle’s past service records, its accident history, whether it has open recalls, and more.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF KIA

Kia has been a transportation leader in South Korea since 1951, when it launched that country’s first domestically produced bicycle. The company made the move to motorcycles in 1957, building them under a license from Honda, and then began to manufacture licensed cars and trucks in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively. Turmoil in the South Korean auto sectors kept Kia out of the car-making business for a while, but the company was back in the game by the mid 1980s and in 1993, it launched the Sephia — the first Kia car to be designed in-house. Another breakthrough came in 1998, when Kia was purchased by Hyundai. Since then, Kia has developed a strong sales and manufacturing presence in the United States that includes winning the North American SUV of the Year award in 2020 (for the Telluride).
